welcome to my hellhole

Reading/Writing & Accessibility

Lately, I've been working on a writing project. I've noticed a few patterns in how I write and specifically how I format it. I tend to use lots of full paragraphs rather than hitting the tab button to separate ideas. (It'll be very apparent in this post too. I do it in all of my writing; not just my creative writing.)

I have ADHD and I find that using lots of paragraphs makes the flow better and more easily digestible, at least for me. In a lot of literature, it's usually just entire pages with walls of text, and it gets me confused since I tend to skip lines and read ahead which affects my comprehension. Nearly all writing uses serif fonts (such as Times New Roman), which have been proven to be more difficult for those with disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, and autism to read, and I have that same experience.

A lot of criticism I've received is that my formatting is incorrect or unprofessional. I write this way because it makes it easier for me to understand. In my drafts, I always use readable fonts. If I ever post something publicly, I do prefer to use serif fonts, but I will always make sure I have an alternative version with more easily readable fonts.

To the people who criticize my formatting--just don't read it! In that case, what I write is not for you. And, no, it won't destroy me that a few people aren't reading it; you're not that important, so quit being so self-centered. I don't write for you, I write for me, and for any others that might enjoy it.

(Yes, this post is somewhat targeted.)
