Neurodivergence & Rigidity

As I believe I've mentioned here before, I am neurodivergent; I have ADHD and there's a 99% chance I'm autistic as well. With that, of course, comes various social and emotional struggles. One I have been observing in myself recently is how rigid and inflexible I can be when it comes to some things, especially self-reflection and academics.

My most recent example of this just happened today. My fellow students and I were asked to fill out a student survey. One of the questions was related to this Monday, which was a day I was absent due to being sick. Naturally, I asked my teacher for assistance because I was unsure of what to do. He recommended just answering for a different day, to which I responded negatively and defensively. I reflected afterwards and noticed that I immediately shut down any suggestions because I had a preconceived notion of what answers would be right or wrong, and I believed (and, frankly, still do believe) that recollecting a day other than Monday would just be incorrect, which made (and still makes) me deeply uncomfortable.

I don't know why things like this cause me such deep discomfort to the point where it manifests physically. From what I know, the vast majority of people would have nodded along and gone with my teacher's suggestion, but the way I function is far different than many "normal" people. Finding ways to combat this is very difficult.
