Homework & Studying

Like the vast majority of people, I dislike homework and studying. I'm more than happy to study topics I'm interested in, but they're never the ones I need to study for school.

School takes up the majority of my life, taking into account that I have to sleep, and it's Monday through Friday for 180 days, with our longest break besides summer being winter break, which is only about two weeks. When I'm at home, enjoying time to myself, I don't want to be working on schoolwork, whether that be studying, homework, or even e-mailing teachers.

In many classes (mostly health/P.E.), the teachers discuss healthy work-life balances for the future. But why not the present? People are so occupied with school and responsibilities that the time they have to themselves is limited. People--especially adolescents--need personal time and socialization with peers outside of a work environment to develop a better understanding of the people and world around them.

Now, I'm not saying homework and studying should be completely obliterated--they shouldn't. It can be extremely helpful to some. That's why I think homeroom classes and study periods should be a regular norm in all schools. That way, they're still getting the extra education, but are still able to thoroughly enjoy their personal life without school getting in the way.

Am I writing this because I'm mad at my algebra teacher? Absolutely.
