AI In School
With the rise of AI marketing towards teenagers, especially those in school, it's becoming more and more common for students to use it in order to "cheat", like having it write essays for them.
I'd like to preface the following by saying that I don't think AI in schools is all bad. I've said in the past that I believe that AI can be beneficial in many ways, and this includes education and learning. There are AIs that can thoroughly explain topics in simple and easily digestible ways, which can be incredibly helpful for students--especially those with disabilities such as myself. (I don't use AI, though.)
At the same time, I mentioned in my AI posts in the past that the data centers have negative environmental impacts. I'm putting that aside in this argument though.
I think that schools place too much pressure on grades rather than actual learning. Getting lower grades has been proven to have very negative impacts on students' mental health and overall morale, which in turn affects their grades and their general learning. One of my beliefs is that students use AI because they need the higher grades since schools--and society--place so much importance on them. I've seen many students say that they are interested in learning, but the way schools do it makes it unappealing and difficult.
I don't support the use of AI when it comes to direct education, but I think that it can be okay if it's used in moderation to assist students a bit and give them that little push. Just like lower grades can have negative emotional effects, well-earned higher grades can make a student feel more accomplished in school.
